On 19 April 2016, the Faculty of Computing had successfully organised an industrial talk featuring a speaker from Malaysia’s forefront technology provider in Information and Communications Technology, Industrial Electronics Technology and Nano-Semiconductor Technology, MIMOS Berhad.
The talk was delivered by Dr Poh Geong Sen, Staff Researcher at MIMOS’s Information Security Lab, who has extensive research experience in information security, specifically in the field of cryptography. During the talk, the students were provided with a brief introduction of the company, its policy and research and development (R&D).
Dr Poh further explained on technology clusters identified under the 10th Malaysia Plans, such as information security, knowledge technology, physcometrics, intelligent informatics and nanoelectronics. He also willingly shared his working experience at MIMOS, and gave students valuable advice and guideline on the routines of a researcher. Lastly, Dr Poh directed students on how to download, install and use MIMOS Mi-TCK and Mi-2DDBC, which are examples of mobile applications resulted from his researches.
The talked ended with a ‘Question and Answer’ session, where students were given opportunities to direct questions to Dr Poh. Overall the talk benefited the students in many ways, and they gained better understanding on research and how they can apply the knowledge to their own academic project.
